Were magazines dirty??? OMG! How did they get dirty? Lol! Though not dirty, you could get a good anatomy lession thumbing through a Nation Geographic! I remember the Playboys stashed in the woods that most young boys my age would make a pilgrimage to see before they were found missing!

Those were the days. Government regulation meant all flights cost the same (a ton), it was the level of service that was used for competition. I wrote a column about flying in the 60's: http://www.irememberjfk.com/mt/2008/08/flying_in_the_1960s.phpNowadays, flying is dirt cheap, but you are treated like cattle, and packed in like sardines. I'm not sure which way I prefer, expensive pampering, or taxis with wings.

My first flight was on a brand-new 747 ('69-'70). They gave you a really spiffy bag. There was a piano lounge. The movies were shown on an actual movie screen. The stewerdesses (remember that word?) entertained you the whole time with games and activities. The air was thick with cigarette smoke. I was allowed to go into the cockpit during the flight and they gave me a pin. There was no metal detector or ID check. I certainly didn't have to remove my shoes. As I was falling asleep the stewardess told my Mom I could go into the first class section, which was nearly empty. Man, times have changed.

Heehee, I remember my oldest brother had stashed a Playboy in the garage and I found it, what a lesson in human anatomy! I think I was six.

I was 8 years old and sitting in my homeroom classroom, when the principal of the school came on the intercom to tell everyone JFK had been assassinated. It was on a Friday so we were dismissed from class for the weekend. My mother was in tears when I got home. She was watching the events unfold on the television the entire weekend.

I think I was about 14 or 15 years old when I was alone in the big city as I stepped into a large bookstore. In the corner was a seperate dirty magazines section. A few men were watching and reading (yeah right). I decided to step into the area got a place between the men and looked into the magazines. After a while suddenly a hand was on my shoulders. It was the man from the bookstore. 'Can I help you?' said the man. I said 'No, I'm just watching'. Well, he said, that's ok. But remember...you have to buy something. And he walked away. I didn't know what to do, I was afraid to just run away. I looked at the prices and they were way too expensive. My heart was pounding and it was getting warmer and warmer. After checking all the prices of the magazines I suddenly saw a small book which costed only a few bucks. I went to the counter and payed for the book. Ran away as fast as I can. Outside I got the book out of the paper bag and ........ there were no pictures and it was written in spanish. I threw it away and went home. I never returned to that store again. I guess the men an the guy behind the counter had a big laugh.

We only had air conditioners in the bedrooms. I remember the noise all night. Sometimes when it didn't work I couldn't sleep because it was too quiet.

Not sure if this is a good topic, but I remember helping my Dad install a window air conditioner in our house, unfortunately it was in the master bedroom and not the living room. That would be in the early 70's. Up until that time we relyed on oscillating fans and open doors and windows. I didn't live in a house with central air until 1976 when my family moved to New MExcio and got a place with a swamp cooler.

Hard to remember first time, but I would imagine it was with Boy Scouts. Probably Goshen Scout Camp in Virginia! Camping was always fun! Try camping 19th Century fashion! I do it with Civil War reenacting! It is an adventure!
